It's the Final Countdown

All you Arrested Development fans will get this, I sing "it's the final countdown" and picture Gob beginning his magic act in my head every time I think about that phrase. But really it is our final countdown.  In less than 2 weeks we'll begin a trip that has been several years in the making.  These final days are flying by, and it seems that there is still so much to do.

I still haven't actually written down any lists.  I have lists, lots of lists but they are still all in my head. I have a list of books to borrow from the library, a list of songs to download, a list of food to pack, a list of clothes to pack, a list of gear to pack.  I think given some time I could probably come up with a couple of more lists, in fact this is my first list.  A list of my lists.

The RV is in the shop getting the final work done.  I'm hoping they will finish by Friday so we can have the weekend to do all the other prep.  The cleaning, the organizing and of course the packing.  We know what we want to take and based on our previous trips, what we can realistically take but I'm still nervous about fitting it all into the RV.  We'll be gone a whole month, there is definitely more gear involved when you are going to be gone a month.

We also need to organize what we are leaving behind: a house, one geriatric cat, one hamster and a hermit crab (we are down one hermit crab after the sudden death of Shelly the hermit crab this week). I have a house sitter coming to take care of our cat and the house, and someone to cut the lawn, but I still need to do organize bills, stop the newspapers, and write down all the instructions for everyone.

I get tired just thinking about it all.  I do feel bad for the family.  I tend to get a bit wound up right before trips.  I must admit I'm not much fun to be around during the final trip preparations but the minute we hit the highway, I relax and really begin to enjoy the journey.

It's been over a year since our last vacation, this one will be one we'll be talking about for years to come.  I'm sure we'll have some great stories to tell and hopefully most of them we'll record in this blog.  So stick around, really we are not in the final countdown we are just gearing up!
