The Route

Ultimately, we plan on taking two cross country (east-west) trips.  For our first pass, we will be taking the "northern route" across the country.  This trip will include


  • Badlands
  • Devil's Tower
  • Yellowstone
  • Crater Lake
  • Crescent City
  • Coos Bay
  • Portland
  • Seattle
  • Vancouver
  • Glacier National Park
  • Chicago
The second trip will be the "southern route".  We have not gone into too much detail on this trip, but the plan is to include

  • Denver
  • Salt Lake City
  • San Francisco
  • Monterey Bay
  • Yosemite
  • Los Angeles
  • San Diego
  • Grand Canyon
  • New Orleans
  • St. Louis
It's amazing that 8 weeks isn't nearly enough time to see the entire country.  We've skipped the entire northeast and southeast portions of the country on our two journey's.  Given that we live on the east coast we can, and have, travelled through most of New England.  And having lived in Florida for many years we have seen a good portion of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.  I'm sure we'll continue to explore these areas more as time goes by.

    We think it is hilarious to list Coos Bay among your lofty destinations.

    It's the only town I know of on the Oregon Coast, so I figured other people must have heard of it :-)

    Coos Bay is a famous destination, home of running legend Steve Prefontaine!!
